To Be The Best Too is a story inspired by Anthony Gatto and how he became ‘The World’s Greatest Juggler’. Told by Arron Sparks and Owen Reynolds (certainly not the world’s greatest jugglers) through storytelling, parody, some fancy footwork and, of course, juggling.
The story so far…
Early this year, we were awarded Lab:Time through the NCCA and funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The week R&D took place in the Creation Studio at the NCCA where we explored ideas around making a children’s juggling piece aimed at 5 – 12 year olds.
In March 2018, we then participated at Imaginate’s “Ideas Exchange” in Edinburgh where we showed a 20minute Scratch. Here are some photos from the showing. (Photos by Jassy Earl)
We were then very fortunate to be awarded Lab:Time², also through the NCCA and funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The residencies took place in the iconic Transmitter Hall at Alexandra Palace where we used the free reign of the space and financial support to create a 50minute Work in Progress, with story arc help from performers and writers Howard Read and Mike Bell, prop building from Matt Pang, and direction from Lewis Hetherington.
This Work in Progress has now been performed for both school and public audiences at Braw Festival, Glasgow, on the 7th and 8th September. We are now looking for further support to finish this piece and have it ready to tour mid 2019.
